The Single Guy’s Guide to Getting Through Valentine’s Day
Being in a relationship is overrated, anyway.
2.9.2016
Valentine’s Day is this weekend and your roommate is freaking out because he doesn’t know where to take his girlfriend to dinner. Every place he’s called is booked, and he wants to avoid the place with a reputation for food poisoning. And while you’d like to help him out, you’re single and trying to figure out your own plans. Should you go to that single’s party your buddy from work invited you to? Or stay in and order from the new Thai place down the street? We give you a run down of your best options:
1. Treat yourself.
While every hitched guy you know is spending an exorbitant amount of money on flowers, candy, and a subpar filet mignon, you don’t have to worry about any of that. You don’t have anyone else you need to spend money on. Buy yourself that Rolex that you never got for your birthday, splurge on a new Tom Ford suit for work, or just drop some money on that bottle of Macallan Oscuro you’ve been meaning to try.
2. Go to a party/the bar.
Parties are great for two things: free food and free alcohol. Not to mention there might be a few single ladies in attendance whose eye you could catch. If that’s not really your vibe, hit up the bar. Since you won’t be the only single one there, maybe you’ll make someone’s day, as well as your own.
3. Go to the game. Watch the game. Do sports.
Gather up all your other single dude friends and get geared up. The NBA All-Star Game starts at 8 P.M. EST; the NHL has a multitude of matchups all day (watch for the Bruins/Red Wings game at 3:30 P.M. EST); or, if you want to represent your alma mater, tune into a college hoops game. If you’re fortunate enough to live close by, score some cheap seats and bring out the lucky jersey.
4. Catch up on your favorite shows.
You don’t have anyone telling you to change the channel or that she needs to watch that episode of The Bachelor she missed last week. You have control of the remote, and of the show. If you’re already caught up, Netflix is streaming a slew of new movies, shows, and original series you can binge watch. Or you can watch anything, really. You’ll be alone all day...
