DIY: Step Up Your Wardrobe With Studs

1.21.2014

As the New Year rolls around, we are always looking for ways to improve ourselves.  It’s the “New year, New you” mantra.  One thing that can always use a boost, no matter what time of year, is our wardrobe.  There is no such thing as a closet that doesn’t need anything else in it.  But rather than breaking the bank by buying tons of new clothes, why don’t you just revamp the ones you have instead?  A new wardrobe, for almost nothing at all.

You want to know the best way to boost your wardrobe?  Add studs.  These petite points add an edge to any piece, whether structured or flowy.  You can do as little as adding just a few to the collar of your favorite shirt, to covering the whole entire back of your favorite jean jacket.  The possibilities are endless.  You can also add them to the side seams of jeans and leggings, the rims of hats, and, if you really want to try something different, you can even try to put them on your shoes (although, that is admittedly a lot harder than the other options).

This is a super easy DIY project, that won’t take up a lot of time, or break the bank.  You really can’t go wrong with silver or gold studs and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so that your look will be just as unique as you.  All you need are a pack or two of studs, depending on how elaborate you want your design to be, an article of clothing, and about 30 minutes to an hour of time.

You can find most studs at craft stores such as Michael’s or Hobby Lobby for low prices or you can also buy them off of eBay in bulk.  The easiest kind of studs to use are the ones with the prongs on the back.  All you need to do is stick the studs where you want on your piece of clothing, make sure the prongs go through the cloth, and then fold the prongs inward so that they crisscross one another.  And viola!  You have successfully attached a stud to your piece of clothing.

Just remember, you can go as crazy (or not) as you want with this project.  It’s all up to you and your sense of style.  Here are just a couple ideas of what you can do with a pack of studs and an open closet:
